Natural Bath & Beauty Products I’ve Used Up #6

empties6Some more natural body products I’ve used and a quick word with my thoughts on each product…enjoy!

CV Skinlabs Rescue + Relief Spray – Love this soothing and hydrating spray so much for my face and body.  I’ve talked about it here and here.

Zum Face Gentle Facial Cleanser – This is the best affordable oil cleanser I’ve found thus far. It melts my makeup and does a fantastic job of removing stubborn eye makeup as well.  My only caveat is that it can sting my eyes a little if I’m not careful.  My favorite makeup removing oil cleanser is the Elizabeth Dehn for OLO…but it’s a bit pricey so I’ve been using this one a lot.

Honest Deodorant Bergamot Sage – I did not like this deodorant at all.  It just didn’t do anything for me.  Not only that, but when there was about 20% of the product left, the spray nozzle stopped working and would splatter the spray heavily.

Skin Owl Beauty Drops in Geranium – I really enjoyed this face oil – it had a lovely mild scent and worked really nicely with my skin during the summer and early fall.  It also has a great price point.  This is something I might repurchase.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub – A great affordable facial scrub.  This was my second or third tube.  I haven’t bought a new tube yet, but will probably purchase another in the spring or early summer.

Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil – One of my favorite face oils to date – probably in my top three.  The scent took some getting used to for me, but once I did, I really enjoyed it.  I actually haven’t repurchased this one yet, but only because I have a few oils that I want to use up first.  However, I plan on buying another bottle.  I talked about it here.

The Little Alchemist Ultra C Radiance Serum – This was a nice serum that I used only at night (due to concerns about Vitamin C and photo-sensitivity).  I used it up and enjoyed it…but I’m not sure I noticed any difference.  Also, I prefer other oils and serums for nighttime.

Brittanie’s Thyme Balancing Toner – [This bottle is totally blocked by another bottle in the photo…oops!]  I loved this affordable toner for the hottest part of summer last year.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen Matte Tint SPF 30 – This is my go-to for summer face sunscreen.  It keeps my face from looking oily.  However, my skin is getting drier, so I’m not sure I will need a matte sunscreen this coming summer.  However, if you get oily or greasy in the humidity, I think you would love this sunscreen.  I talked about it more in-depth here.

Current All-Natural Makeup Faves for Winter

wintermakeupfavesOnce the cool, dry air hits, I have to overhaul my skincare and makeup routine to products that are soothing and hydrating to my dry, irritated winter skin.  These are the makeup products that I have really enjoyed lately.

Once I finished my Coola summer sunscreen, I bought the Honest Beauty Beyond Protected Sheer Tint SPF 30.  I love this product [read my review here] because it is hydrating and feels so good on my skin.  It has a hint of tint, similar to most tinted sunscreens, and doesn’t provide any real coverage.  This is more of a “slightly blur your imperfections” type of tint.  I like using it on its own on light makeup days, or as the base to my foundation.

On days that I don’t use foundation, I’ve been enjoying mixing my Honest tinted SPF with the Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer – which isn’t the cleanest formula (it isn’t listed on Skindeep, either), but it does give a nice golden glow to my skin.

Left: Aromi Sweet Marsala; Right: Ilia Femme Fatale

When I’m in the mood for a berry/deep toned lip color, I really love the Aromi matte liquid lipstick in Sweet Marsala.  Applying it can be quite tricky for me, because I’m not used to using liquid lipsticks, but it is a gorgeous color!  I don’t find that it is super drying on my lips, but I don’t use it frequently, so it might be drying if the weather was really cold.  So far, I haven’t had any issues. It does last pretty well, but not through tons of drinking or eating, after which it will fade in the center of my mouth.

The other color I love right now is a brick red – Ilia lipstick in Femme Fatale.  It can be lightly applied, or built up for a more dramatic color.  The formula is so smooth and comfortable.

Top to bottom: Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer, RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer, 100% Pure Pot Rouge in Pinkie

For face makeup products, I love cream bronzer and cream blush for winter.  They contain emollient ingredients that help moisturize my skin.  My favorite cream bronzer is RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer, which I apply with the Real Techniques Sculpting Brush.  It gives a subtle but still noticeable warmth to my skin. My skin does very well with coconut oil, so thankfully I have no issues with this product, the first three ingredients of which are coconut oil, beeswax, and jojoba oil.  So while it also isn’t technically vegan, it is a great organic bronzer with a beautiful, believable color.

My favorite cream blushes (of those that I’ve tried) are the 100% Pure Pot Rouge blushes.  The two shades I own are Pinkie and Blush, and they are both gorgeous, natural colors.  I cannot get over how seamlessly these blushes blend into my skin – it’s truly as if my cheeks are naturally blushed.  The texture of these is so soft and creamy and longevity is an entire workday for me.  The pots are quite small, but don’t be deceived, because it will last a very long time (months, even with daily use).  The first two ingredients are avocado butter and rosehip oil, so this is a high quality product worth the price, if you can afford it (I got mine on sale).

Lastly, I use a hydrating toner on my face several times a day during the winter.  I am finishing up my CV Skinlabs Rescue + Relief Spray, which I LOVE. [The glass bottle shown in the top photo is the bottle I decanted my spray into, because for me, the CV Skinlabs mister was not fine enough for spraying on my face.]  I think I like this product better than Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator, probably because the CV Skinlabs really targets irritated skin.  Fantastic, and I would definitely repurchase.

The other hydrating mist I recently picked up was the Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Floral Toner which smells amazing because I happen to love the scent of roses.  It feels really nice on my skin and the price point is fantastic.  I got mine on sale at my local natural store for less than $10.

What are your favorite winter beauty products?  Are you a fan of any that I mentioned?

Quality Time with Children

playtime

I have only one child and I strive to make as many happy memories of the two of us as possible.  There is something deeply important to me about making memories out of both the simple and even mundane, as well as exciting experiences.  With a mixture of both, I hope to give my daughter a childhood that is fun, memorable, and happy.  I will cherish my memories forever.  These are just some of the things we have done together.

  • We recently went to an afternoon movie together, which is something we do a few times a year.  Sin of sins, I bought movie theater popcorn and pop – which I NEVER do.  I told her, “This is a special treat.”  I know the food was terrible for us, but I also don’t want to be militant about food.   So I relaxed and just had fun with her.  It was great.
  • Occasionally, we will have lunch or dinner together somewhere.  It’s such a simple thing to eat – we do it every day – but spending one-on-one time with a child can make it a memory.
  • There are times when I let her pick out a small toy (typically under $10) just because.  For no reason other than, “I love you.”
  • I typically take her to swim at the YMCA once a week.  I watch her swim and she enjoys saying, “Mommy, watch this!”  It’s something she always looks forward to when I tell her I’m taking her swimming.
  • She loves to play board games.  Her current favorites are Go Fish, Twister, Spot It!, Hedbanz, Clue, and occasionally Candy Land.  This is classic parent-child bonding.
  • When the weather is nice, nothing beats taking a child to the park and just watching them play with abandon. She loves to show me her slide skills or ask me to push her on the swing.
  • Sometimes we do something extra special, like in December when we got dressed up and went to the ballet. It was such a great experience for both of us!
  • Reading books together is simple and wonderful on many levels
  • She also loves taking walks with our dogs or me walking while she rides her bike or scooter

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but just an example of some of the things I love to do with my child.  Sometimes we struggle to take time out of our busy lives to simply share a little one-on-one time with a child, but when we do, and we are actively present in the moment with our child (i.e. not on a phone, the internet, or talking to someone else), it is wonderful for both the child and parent.

What are your favorite ways to spend quality time with your child[ren]?
