My Fave All-Natural Aromatherapy & Scents

I’m a sniffer – I love it when I come in contact with a scent that really appeals to me.  There are lots of things I smell that are nice or OK – but sometimes products come along that really speak to my sense of smell.  While I’m not that educated in aromatherapy/flower essences/etc, I know that when I really like the way something smells, it can have a very positive impact on my outlook and wellbeing.  That being said, the scents need to be either 100% natural or extremely close to all-natural.  About 99% of the time, I am not a fan of synthetic fragrances and they can very often trigger nausea or migraines, thus I stick to naturals. The following products are some of the natural scents I really love.

Hurraw! Orange Lip Balm – I love Hurraw lip balms, and this scent/flavor is my favorite.  It’s a bright, citrus flavor.  I just love it.

Lotus Wei Infinite Love Annointing Oil – Every Lotus Wei product I’ve tried has been fantastic.  I’m drawn to their infinite love line because I’m an empathetic soul who loves love.  This anointing oil is great to put on my pulse points and deeply inhale. The scent is a mildly citrus infused rose scent.  I am a huge lover of the smell of roses – not an artificial rose scent, but the pure scent of fresh roses.

Kani Botanicals Petal Polish – I first tried this in a Petit Vour box.  Like a lot of sample products I’ve never heard of, I wasn’t excited about this product until I opened it and used it in the shower one day.  AMAZING.  This is easily one of my favorite scents of all time.  It is complex and just absolutely beautiful.  And it isn’t just a pretty scent – I actually love the results I get with this face exfoliator/mask – it exfoliates while moisturizing my skin with lots of great oils.  The rose oils, brown sugar, and essential oils create an aromatic blend that never fails to intoxicate me when I open the jar.

Essence of Vali Sleep: A Bedtime Ritual Oil – My husband and I typically put a drop of this oil on the corner of our pillows every night.  I’ve tried other sleep/calm/bedtime oils, and this is my favorite of the ones I’ve tried.  It’s also pretty affordable compared to some other brands that are upwards of $50 for a small vial.  I’m not contesting the quality of ingredients in other brands, but yes, I often look for more affordable options in my natural products.  This one is perfect – great quality and price point, and it smells amazing.  As I have learned over the years, not all essential oils are created equally.  You could try 10 different brands of lavender oil, for example, and they will probably all vary in scent and quality.  The Sleep: A Bedtime Ritual oil is great.  It really does help us calm down at bedtime.

100% Pure Coconut Body Cream – It’s odd because people tend to either love or hate this scent.  I’m a lover.  It definitely has the coconut scent, but also more subtle hints of vanilla and butter (though, no, it does not contain butter and is actually all-natural and vegan).  I typically gravitate to sweet scents with ingredients like coconut and vanilla, so it makes sense that I love this body cream.

Givescent Signature Perfume Oil – It’s a bummer, in all honesty, to give up those gorgeous perfumes that litter the counters of department stores and beauty chains like Sephora.  This natural perfume with a roller ball applicator is one of the closest I’ve come to that scent I remember from the days when I loved my Chanel perfume – deep, complex, feminine, sexy.  It has decent lasting power, too.  The company says this is a blend that includes citrus and vanilla (see a pattern?) but it is so much more than a basic citrus-vanilla scent – it truly is a beautiful, sultry perfume.

SkinOwl Mangosteen Beauty Drops PM Oil – The only ingredient is pure mangosteen oil – and does it ever have that WOW factor.  The scent is fruity and yummy.  You almost feel like a kid opening a box of fruity cereal…but surprise!  It’s all-natural.  Every single time I use this face oil, I fall in love with the sweet aroma all over again.

Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Floral Toner or other high-quality rosewater (not pictured) – Again, I love the scent of roses.  I like to keep a bottle of this at work to mist myself with throughout the day – it really is an uplifting scent.  I love it for my face and skin, plus it is a nice, light hydrating toner for the face.

Not pictured – Peppermint Essential Oil – This is kind of a staple.  Peppermint oil is great for headaches but is also a pure, energizing scent for anytime.  Find a decent quality peppermint oil and do a search for all the ways you can use it.

My iHerb Order – January 2016

Here’s a look at what I bought on my most recent “trip” to – I love the site for affordable all-natural products, including food, bath and body, and vitamins.  My most recent order included:

Desert Essence Island Mango Shampoo & Conditioner

Desert Essence, Island Mango Shampoo, Enriching, 8 fl oz (237 ml)

Desert Essence, Island Mango Conditioner, Enriching, 8 fl oz (237 ml)I wanted to try some new shampoo and conditioner, and I’ve had great success with other Desert Essence hair care. First, I was hoping that the scent would be like fresh mango – sweet and fruity, but not fake and overpowering – at it is!  I love fruit scents, they just make me happy.  As far as the lather factor, the shampoo lathers beautifully.  The conditioner is thick and moisturizing.  So far, I am really enjoying this duo for my fine hair.

Hurraw! Orange Lip Balm

Hurraw! Balm, Lip Balm, Orange, .15 oz (4.3 g)

Not much to say, other than this is my favorite lip balm ever.  Read my review about Hurraw! lip balms here.

HimalaSalt – Primordial Himalayan Sea Salt

HimalaSalt, Primordial Himalayan Sea Salt, 6 oz (170 g)

I’m a total Himalayan Sea Salt convert – it just tastes so much better than any other salt I’ve used before.  I recently finished my last container of another brand of HSS and my regular sea salt just lacked.  I haven’t tried this brand before, but it has good reviews on iHerb.  So far it seems pretty good, maybe not my favorite Himalayan sea salt I’ve had, but very good.

South of France Mediterranean Fig Bar Soap (sample size)

South of France, Mediterranean Fig, French Milled Bar Soap with Organic Shea Butter, 1.5 oz (42.5 g)

I bought this specifically for an upcoming trip my husband and I are taking.  I am not a fan of hotel soap, so this little bar will be perfect.  Plus, I love the scent of figs – it’s one of my absolute favorites!

Gin-Gins Hard Ginger Candy – Double Strength

The Ginger People, Gin·Gins, Hard Ginger Candy, Double Strength, 3 oz (84 g)

Not only am I a huge fan of anything ginger, I also frequently use ginger for upset stomach.  These are not for the faint hearted – I can’t compare them to the regular strength Gin-Gins, but these pack a punch and are a bit spicy and a touch sweet.  I often have a bit of an upset stomach when I have anxiety.  The last time that happened, I had one of these Gin-Gins, and it really did help settle my stomach.  I am keeping a few in my office as well as my purse. I even bought a bag for my Mom, who likes them, too!

Two Moms in the Raw – Bring on the Blueberry Granola Bars (Vegan)

Two Moms in the Raw, Granola Bars, Bring on the Blueberry, 6 Bars, 1 oz (28 g) Each

As I transition to vegan, I’m always looking for convenience snacks that are low in sugar and calories.  These little bars are 100 calories and loaded with good-for-you ingredients – primarily fruit, seeds, and nuts.  I really like these for an afternoon snack!

Any recommendations for my next iHerb purchase?

Products I’ve Used Up: Skincare & Makeup

Lots of products I used up during the last half of winter and spring.  Some products I loved, some I didn’t!

Flo + Theo Body Butter in Lemon Orchard – I loved this Petit Vour sample – the scent, the whipped texture, the way it hydrated my skin.  I would consider repurchasing if I ever run out of body lotion/oil/butters, which I never seem to do.

Balanced Guru Scrub Me – Another Petit Vour sample.  I enjoyed this very much the first time I used it, however, after a couple of weeks I opened it to use again, and it had dried out to the point where I couldn’t really use it, which was very disappointing.

One Love Organics Skin Savior – One of the products I used during the winter and early part of the spring to combat my very sensitive and dry skin.  Possibly will repurchase this fall, but there are some other cold weather skincare products I might try instead.

BWC Brown Eyeliner – Yet another Petit Vour sample, this one from last fall I believe.  I tried to like this, I tried not to waste it – but this eyeliner is terrible.  The color payoff is minimal and I had to really tug on my eye to get any to show up.  Not worth it, so I got rid of it.

Balanced Guru Fearless Spray – Another disappointment I just could not get myself to enjoy.  The smell, for me, was terrible.  It just smelled unpleasant.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub – A staple in my shower that I use a couple of times a week.  So nice and such a great price point.

Hurraw! Lip Balm in Orange – Possibly my favorite flavor from my favorite lip balm company. More here.

Stark Grapefruit Balm – A sample I received with an Integrity Botanicals order last winter, I used this on my winter skin and really enjoyed the consistency and scent.  I did not like it as a cleanser, however.

W3LL People Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara – Favorite mascara, ever. Excellent non-flaking formula, perfect wand, perfect consistency.  Enough said.

Mineral Fusion Oil Cleanser – Bought this on a whim and I basically forced myself to use it up – no other oil cleanser compares to the original formula of the ED4OLO Vitamin B Cleansing Oil.  Sadly, I heard that to obtain ECOCERT status, OLO had to take out one of the ingredients that made their cleansing oil so great.  Disappointing, but I do understand.

Laurel WPO Healing Balm – Another Integrity Botanicals Sample – I loved this balm so much, it was my favorite out of the face balms I used in the winter (OLO Skin Savior and Stark Grapefruit Balm being the other two).  I would definitely consider purchasing a full size this fall.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen Tint – My favorite summer sunscreen, which I recently posted about here.

Evan Healy Rose Geranium Hydrosoul – I love EH hydrosols – there are just excellent quality.  I don’t think you could go wrong with any of their hydrosols.  Expensive, but so nice.

Root Science Youth Serum – An excellent serum.  I would definitely repurchase.

Dr. Bronner’s Citrus Castile Soap – The granddaddy of all-natural multi-purpose products.  I primarily use this watered down to clean my kitchen and bathroom. Look here.

Alteya Organics Bulgarian Rose Water – Such a beautiful rose water.  I picked this up at Whole Foods and absolutely loved it to the last drop. I primarily use rose water to set my makeup or as a pick-me-up during the day.

Raw Skinceuticals Cream Blush – A Petit Vour sample that just didn’t make sense to me.  The color was a weird mauve-lavender and the texture was creamy but somehow still dry.  It didn’t blend easily, either.  No, thanks.

Josh Rosebrook Active Enzyme Exfoliator – A cult status product that just didn’t wow me personally.  I got at least 10 uses out of the mini size, which was impressive.  However, I just never noticed a difference in my skin – it was not softer, clearer, or brighter after using.

Lotus Wei Inner Peace Energy Mist – Loved this, but not quite as much as their Infinite Love Energy Mist, which has the most amazing scent. These products truly have an immediate, positive affect on my mood and sense of well-being.

Christopher Drummond Duo Phase Hydrating Concealer (FYI – now Hynt Beauty) – My favorite concealer ever.  It doesn’t crease, lasts all day, and covers my dark circles and redness.  I won’t fix what isn’t broken, so I just keep repurchasing this one again and again.  This company recently became Hynt Beauty and this is the concealer now.  I hope it is exactly the same as the old formula!

Are any of these products favorites of yours?  Are there any you have tried and were disappointed with?
