If I Had To Replace All My Makeup…

vanity

I’ve always thought this was a fun idea – if all your makeup was suddenly gone, what makeup would you buy, right now, to start over?  Even though my makeup changes with the seasons and I’m always discovering new products and brands I love. Some of these choices are items I know and love, other choices are products that I’ve read enough about to be willing to try them over other options.  These are the items I would buy right now to start over with a mostly low-toxin/natural, cruelty-free makeup collection.

Face:

  • Foundation: Fitglow Vita-Active Foundation – the most hydrating foundation I’ve tried, excellent ingredients, light-medium coverage, lasting power is very good
  • Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer – I have major under eye darkness and I tried this one in store and LOVED it.  Even though I have a concealer, I want to buy this one right now.
  • Blush: RMS Lip2Cheek probably in Modest and Spell – never tried these particular products, but I really want to!

Lips:

  • Lip balm: Hurraw! for basic lip balm

Swatched! My Favorite All-Natural Lip Colors for Spring

lipswatches2To me, when it comes to makeup, lipstick is the absolute quickest way to feel “dolled up” and feminine.  I love shades of pink the most, with an occasional mauve, berry, nude, and red thrown in.  These happen to be the all-natural, non-toxic lipsticks I have in my collection that I think are perfect for Spring.  I have swatched all these products on bare lips to try to give the best color representation possible.  I also photographed them all in natural light.

No8PoppyW3LL People Nudist Colorbalm in No. 8 Poppy – Think of a tinted lipbalm when you think of this color.  It is very moisturizing with a slight hint of fucshia. Perfect for applying without a mirror.  It doesn’t seem to leave a stain once it wears off.

LoveBuzzIlia Lip Gloss in Love Buzz – This is a very glossy, non-sticky violet tinged cool pink lip gloss.  The packaging is gorgeous and I love the fun, very wearable color.  Like all lip gloss that I personally have used, it wears well unless you eat or drink a fair amount.

SublimeRMS Beauty Lip Shine in Sublime – This little pot is like melted cotton candy.  Such a gorgeous glossy shade of deep pink! Wears about the same as a lip gloss.

ShellShockIlia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Shell Shock – This might be my favorite formula of all the lip products I own.  The color is definitely gorgeous – a very wearable coral pink.  But the application and texture are amazing.  Just perfectly smooth and beautiful every time.  I love the wear of this, but this particular shade doesn’t leave a stain behind as it fades.

XOXOPacifica Devocean Lipstick in XOX – This is a super pretty cream lipstick in a neutral everyday pink shade.  One thing that is a con about this lipstick is that compared to other lipsticks, it tends to cake a bit on my lips.  I typically always apply lip balm under my lipstick, so it may be me or it may be the formula.

RetsinaBite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Retsina – In the past, I have never had luck with nude lipstick.  They were always too brown or washed out my complexion (fair with yellow undertones).  Retsina is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a flattering pale pink nude for my skintone.  I usually purchase my lip products online, but this was one shade I wanted to be able to swatch before I purchased.  Since Sephora is one of the only beauty stores close to me, I went with Bite Beauty.  I really love this lipstick with smokier eyes…I’ve always thought women with smoky eyeshadow and nude lips were the epitome of sexy!  This formula is super creamy.

NeonAngelIlia Lipstick in Neon Angel – Perhaps the most fun of my lip products, Neon Angel is more versatile that it might appear.  Applied over lipbalm, it gives a beautiful pink tint.  Apply it over bare lips, and you can layer it in intensity until it is similar to the swatch above.  I actually find this color very wearable, as it isn’t neon pink – just bright, bold magenta pink.  This is a slightly drier formula, but I like that, as I feel it gives a very even application.  Wear time is good.

StarletZuzu Luxe Lipstick in Starlet – A basic, cool toned “candy apple” red.  For me, this is a classic red lip that looks good year round.  And for the price, the formula is fantastic.  It applies so smoothly and evenly.  The formula is more creamy that Ilia lipstick, but not as creamy as the Bite Beauty lipstick or Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner.  The wear time is quite good.

Current Autumn Makeup Look

currentautumnmakeuplook

I’ve amped up the moisture for fall and have tried to incorporate a bit of pretty color.  Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean when can only use drab neutrals!  This is a typical makeup routine for me lately.

Coola Face SPF 30 Matte Tint – After my moisturizers and serums have had a few minutes to sink in, I apply this mousse-like tinted sunscreen to my face.  I have never in my life enjoyed a facial sunscreen like this one.  The texture is beautiful, the hydration is just right, there is no cloying scent, it doesn’t break my skin out, it gives a light coverage, and the color is the best I’ve come across for my fair yellow olive-toned complexion.

Christopher Drummond Duo-Phase Hydrating Concealer – I truly love this concealer.  I apply it under my eyes to cover dark circles and around my nose to cover redness.  I use a damp Beauty Blender and it just melts into my skin.  Hydrating is right – there is no settling into lines at all.  I  set this with my pure silica powder, and then it stays all day.

Alima Pure Maracaibo Bronzer – After using Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer for a while (which I do like), I wanted to try Alima’s highly rated powders, but was unsure which to try.  I ordered samples of the Sombra Contour Powder, Maracaibo Bronzer, and Mauna Loa Bronzer.  The Sombra is just a little too flat and ashy on my skin, and Mauna Loa is much too dark.  Maracaibo, on the other hand, is a beautiful matte bronzer with just enough warmth to add depth to my face without looking fake.  I really enjoy this.

Aster + Bay Beet Root & Hibiscus Stain – This is my favorite makeup product right now, and I’ve talked about my love for it here.  This stain is seriously gorgeous on the cheeks.  It is a sheer berry and gives the skin a sexy sheen.  The fact that it is hydrating, has good longevity, and is all-natural just makes me even happier.  You can use it as a lip stain as well, but I just use it on my cheeks.

W3LL People Bio Brightener Stick – This was formerly called Universalist Multi-Use Colorstick #2.  This creamy highlighter is gorgeous on the cheekbones.  It really does add a little indescribable something to the face – just a pretty, glowing, youthful dusting of magic on the skin.

100% Pure Eye Brow Gel in Taupe – I love the cream texture of this eyebrow liner.  It is a pretty decent match for me.

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Mascara in Supernova – I’ve been going back and forth between this one and Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes, but my current tube of the Tarte has been flaking like crazy all over my face.  I’m so frustrated that I want to toss it, which is saying a lot for me because I don’t waste products.  It’s possible I just have a bad tube, so I won’t write this mascara off yet. This Pacifica mascara is very nice, buildable, doesn’t make my lashes dry, and doesn’t flake at all.   However, I like my lashes more dramatic than this can really produce.  I’ve decided to try W3LL People mascara next.

Everyday Minerals Mineral Eyeshadow in Laptop – This is my favorite eyeshadow of ALL TIME.  And they discontinued it!!  I’m always searching for a dupe but I don’t know if I’ll ever find one.  This one is a shimmer eyeshadow with a light brown base, plum tones, and silver shimmer.  It’s seriously gorgeous and gives something along the lines of a Victoria’s Secret subtle-but-sexy eye look.  If you know of a similar eyeshadow color, please tell me!

Tarte SmolderEYES Eyeliner in Fig – This deep plum eyeliner is just gorgeous.  The tip is fat, which makes it very easy for me to apply.  My eyesight is not so good in my right eye, so eyeliner application can be tricky with a thin pencil.  This one glides on so easily.

Ilia Lipstick in Neon Angel – I know.  Bright pink lipstick in autumn?  Paired with plum eyeliner?  But hold on – I don’t apply this at full-strength.  Applied lightly, it gives a feminine pop of pink that actually looks beautiful this time of year.

Lotus Wei Infinite Love Mist – I always finish with a few mists of a hydrosol or rose water on my face.  Lately I’ve been using this after my makeup is done. The scent is incredible – one of my favorite scents ever.  So much so, that I plan on purchasing the Infinite Love perfume.  These are not just accidental flower combinations – they are formulated to work on your mood as well. This one just makes me so happy and feel so loved.

Fall Natural Beauty Wishlist

Fall Beauty CollageI never tire of discovering amazing skin products, sampling, and gushing over amazing ingredients.  Winter was brutal around here last year, and my skin was a wreck from the cold Artic air.  I had to really go into damage mode around December and found myself scrambling to find products that would soothe my poor dehydrated skin. This year, I’m going to be more proactive and have been searching out products to pamper my skin as soon as the weather starts to get dry and cool.  These are a few products that I would love to get my hands on.

1) One Love Organics Skin Savior – This is a waterless beauty balm that OLO says is suitable as a makeup remover and a super moisturizing balm, which would be ideal for fall and winter. No, this isn’t the most wallet-friendly product ever, but a little goes a long way with balms, so this would easily last months and months.  I have tried a few of their products and they have yet to disappoint – in fact, the products I’ve tried have been amazing and I have a feeling this one would be, too!

2) Ilia Beauty Tinted Lip Conditioner in Nobody’s Baby – I adore lip balms and have them stashed everywhere – and I mean everywhere!  But a fusion of lipstick and lip balm?  Perfect!  I have Ilia lipsticks and love them, but am curious how their coveted tinted lip conditioners would work on my sensitive, dry winter lips.  Nobody’s Baby is a beautiful pinkish nude that would be a great go-to shade.

3) Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator – I think I need a hydrating toner for fall and winter.  The great thing about a product like this is that you can mist yourself throughout the day as needed, even if you have makeup on!  Sometimes my skin gets that dull look in the middle of the day and I’m thinking this would be a great moisturizing pick-me-up.  Plus, the ingredients sound amazing!

4) Alima Pure Sombra Contour Powder – I’m currently finishing up a sample of Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer, which is nice, but it’s shimmer is best suited for summer.  For fall, I’m really anxious to try this beautiful matte powder that has cleaner ingredients. I think it would be perfect for adding natural color to cheeks.

5) RMS Beauty Un Cover-Up – I have had my eye on RMS products for a while but have yet to take the plunge.  They are a bit pricey, but if I could snag a great deal, this is the product I think I’d try first.  Not only does it get glowing reviews, but I think the coconut oil base of this product would be simply perfect for hydrating my skin during fall and winter. My only issue is deciding between shades 00 and 11 for my fair olive skin.

Have you tried any of these products?  What products are you looking forward to using this fall?

Autumn Inspired Natural Makeup Look

fallmakeupI love changing up my makeup routine as the seasons change.  All those products and colors that didn’t seem to make sense in the hot July sun are suddenly fresh and perfect for Autumn.  These are the products that I think are perfect for a look inspired by fall’s gorgeous shades.

100% Pure Tinted Moisturizer – this product is nice because it adds more hydration to my skin in cool weather, and has nice coverage for a tinted moisturizer.

Hurraw! Vanilla Bean Lip Balm – Although not a fall color, the smell of vanilla always reminds me of autumn and winter, and this is one of the best lip balms I have ever used.  It’s great to use as a pre-lipstick moisturizer.

100% Pure Pot Rouge in Pinkie – It might look bright pink in the jar, but this super buildable and blendable cream blush gives the softest, most natural pink flush to cheeks – not too bright and not too subtle.

Modern Minerals Shimmer Eyeshadow in Lola – I know a lot of women steer clear of shimmer eyeshadows, especially in fall and winter, but this gorgeous rose gold eyeshadow isn’t overpowering.

Beauty Without Cruelty Eye Defining Pencil in Soft Brown – I pretty much completely forego eyeliner in summer when the humidity is up, but I’ve been using this pencil lately and love how it softly accentuates my eyes without the harshness of black eyeliner.

Ilia Lipstick in Femme Fatale – Ilia describes this color as a combination of berry and burgundy, which means this fits right in for autumn.  I love that this color can be worn more sheer or layered for a very sexy look.

I’m also a huge fan of plum eyeshadow for fall, but that’s another post!  What are your favorite colors for this fall?
