Swatched: Favorite Lipsticks for Spring

In the past few years, I have really developed a love for lipsticks.  In my twenties I rarely wore lipsticks, but would occasionally wear lip gloss.  Now I have a lot of fun experimenting with different formulas and finishes of non-toxic lipstick.  My favorite is a soft matte that is very comfortable and non-drying on the lips, as my lips tend to be dry year-round.

I’ve been wearing these shades of lipstick heavily, and have very rarely worn a lipstick other than the 5 mentioned here the past few weeks.  I’m very fair skinned so I don’t like dramatic colors on my lips. I love pinks, warm nudes, and corals.

Kosas Lipstick in Rosewater – Probably my most used lipstick ever.  Think about how profound that statement is given that I’m in my mid-30s!  I wasn’t much of a lipstick wearer until more recent years, but I’ve definitely had lip products in my life since I was in my late teens.  This lipstick is the closest to perfect I’ve personally owned.  It’s not matte but it’s not so moist that the color slips all over the place.  It has great wear time and almost gives a slight stain to the lips.  It’s an everyday mauve-rose shade that I absolutely love.  It smells like vanilla.  I wear this lipstick all.the.time.  It’s really versatile and could be worn year round, hence why I’m including it in my favorite lipsticks for spring.

Red Apple Lipstick in Oh My Guava – This is the color I put on when I have a bolder eye look – liner or smokier shadow.  The color is a pinky nude on me.  The formula is creamy and nicely pigmented but not super long-wearing.  This is the only nude I have in my lipstick collection right now and I’ve really enjoyed using it.  It doesn’t have too much brown in it, which is important for me when wearing a paler shade of nude lipstick.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Chablis – The High Pigment Pencil has become my favorite Bite Beauty formula.  The Amuse Bouche formula is too moist and not very long wearing in my opinion.  The Matte Creme Lip Crayon is too matte and drying for me.  The Pencil is Bite’s Goldilocks in my humble opinion!  The colors almost melt into the lips, giving a stain-like effect if you blot down the color.  It’s not uncomfortably matte but it’s not moist and it has great staying power.  This very soft coral red is my favorite red right now.  Being very fair, I can’t easily pull off a red lip unless I want to look ultra glam or very obvious.  Definitely not a look I go for.  Chablis is such a gorgeous soft red for my fair skin tone and I just love the formula.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Velvet – So I liked Chablis so much that I decided to pick up another shade in the High Pigment Pencil formula.  This time I picked up a super spring-summer shade called Velvet, which is a vibrant cool-toned rose pink. Although it looks very similar to Ilia’s Neon Angel in the swatch, it is more cool toned and more pastel than Neon Angel.  Also, the formula is more of a soft matte whereas Neon Angel is creamier and more moist.

Ilia Lipstick in Neon Angel – In my top three favorite lipsticks ever.  I absolutely love the shade and undertone of this gorgeous hot pink lipstick.  I can use it more lightly for a pop of pink or layer it heavily for really bright hot pink lips.  Somehow it’s not immature or too “Barbie” – it really is just a beautiful, fun shade of pink. RMS Beauty Lip Shine in Sublime [not pictured] – One extra lip product I want to mention is this beauty.  I very rarely want a glossy lip, but when I do, I absolutely love this shade.  The formula is quite sticky to me and definitely has a lot of pigment, but it’s beautiful.  I only wear this indoors or on a day I have my hair pulled up (wind + long hair + wet lips = disaster).  This is an adorable bubblegum pink shade but is incredibly wearable for all ages.

5 Axiology Lipsticks: Swatches & Impressions

axiology1[Edited 11/02/16 – In July 2016, I had a 6 month old tube of Axiology lipstick go bad, which the company replaced.  In September 2016, I had an 11 month old tube of Axiology lipstick go bad, which was not replaced because I was told the lipsticks have a one year shelf-life…and I just let it go.  I am a big supporter of small companies that make natural products…however, I will not repurchase anymore Axiology lipsticks for the foreseeable future due to this recurrent issue with their lipsticks.  I realize that there are a lot of obstacles that all-natural makeup companies deal with, and I can’t imagine how much time, energy, and effort go into making a beautiful product that people will love.  I respect that.  But I will not spend $28 of my money on a lipstick whose shelf-life is so unreliable.]

I’ve done this once before with Axiology lipsticks, here, but I have three new shades to swatch and I love a good swatch post myself, so here are swatches of 5 shades!

I also want to note that I had an issue with one of my other Axiology lipsticks (not shown in this post) and after contacting Axiology’s owner Ericka, she responded right away with exceptional customer service.  I truly appreciate when companies stand behind their products, treat customers well, and have great attitudes.

Axiology just has great lipsticks and gorgeous packaging.  Yes, I do consider these luxury lipsticks, as they retail for $28 each – but you’re paying for high quality, all-natural vegan lipstick.  I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to ingest something, I want it to be natural and free of any toxic chemicals (and yes, if you wear lipstick you are absolutely ingesting some of it).  When I wear these lipsticks, I know that vegan, natural beauty doesn’t mean cutting corners or sacrificing quality, color, or wear-ability.axiologyswatch2Enlighten looks lavender when you swatch it heavily, but applied sheer it is actually beautifully understated.  It could absolutely be an everyday lipstick, especially if you are someone that already gravitates to anything with purple or lavender undertones.  It also has a subtle silver shimmer to the formula – very feminine and girly. Average wear time.

Philosophy is a salmon pink with strong pale orange undertones.  On my skintone, it doesn’t flatter when I apply it heavily.  When I apply one coat, however, it’s a very pretty warm-toned salmon color, suitable for daily wear. It is somewhat sheer and creamy. Average wear time.

Devotion strikes me as an amped-up version of my lips.  The color is a pink with subtle brown undertones.  Very pretty and office appropriate. Moderate coverage and creamy finish. Decent wear time.

Attitude is an electric pink.  Compared to my favorite pink ever, Ilia’s Neon Angel, this shade is slightly metallic and has more of a deep raspberry tone to it.  Semi-opaque and creamy. Good wear time.

Worth is a brick red with orange, so beautiful year around, but especially lovely for fall.  I actually haven’t used this lately, but it really is a gorgeous shade unlike any other lipsticks I have.  The finish is opaque, matte, and has a slightly dry consistency. Staying power is quite good because of the opaque finish.

I Love Coral Lips: Non-Toxic Lipsticks

coralorangelipsWhen I was younger I was all about cool toned lipsticks – but that was before I got educated on warm and cool undertones.  Now I know that for me, warm tones generally always look better with my complexion.  I tend to like most coral and orange-red lip colors and have three natural, non-toxic shades that are beautiful, but still unique to one another.

orangeswatchesAbove, top to bottom, are swatches of Axiology lipstick in the shade Worth, Bite Beauty Matte Cream Lip Crayon in the shade Blood Orange, and Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in the shade Shell Shock.

Axiology Worth is a gorgeous deep toned brick orange-red shade.  It is very pigmented and opaque with one coat.  I love this shade year round, but especially for fall.  It is at once a trendy shade and timeless shade…I can’t explain it, but it is.  At first I didn’t like this color at all, but I grew to love it, obviously.  See it on my lips here.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Blood Orange screams summertime.  It is a matte finish and very opaque.  The color is like orange punch with a hint of dark pink – so bright and fun!  I wore it one of my Instagram posts here.

Finally, Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Shell Shock is a beautiful pinky coral.  This is so moisturizing and subtle, but still gorgeous.  See it on my lips here.
