Products I’ve Used Up: Skincare & Makeup

skinandbodycare

Lots of products I used up during the last half of winter and spring.  Some products I loved, some I didn’t!

Flo + Theo Body Butter in Lemon Orchard – I loved this Petit Vour sample – the scent, the whipped texture, the way it hydrated my skin.  I would consider repurchasing if I ever run out of body lotion/oil/butters, which I never seem to do.

Balanced Guru Scrub Me – Another Petit Vour sample.  I enjoyed this very much the first time I used it, however, after a couple of weeks I opened it to use again, and it had dried out to the point where I couldn’t really use it, which was very disappointing.

One Love Organics Skin Savior – One of the products I used during the winter and early part of the spring to combat my very sensitive and dry skin.  Possibly will repurchase this fall, but there are some other cold weather skincare products I might try instead.

BWC Brown Eyeliner – Yet another Petit Vour sample, this one from last fall I believe.  I tried to like this, I tried not to waste it – but this eyeliner is terrible.  The color payoff is minimal and I had to really tug on my eye to get any to show up.  Not worth it, so I got rid of it.

Balanced Guru Fearless Spray – Another disappointment I just could not get myself to enjoy.  The smell, for me, was terrible.  It just smelled unpleasant.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub – A staple in my shower that I use a couple of times a week.  So nice and such a great price point.

Hurraw! Lip Balm in Orange – Possibly my favorite flavor from my favorite lip balm company. More here.

Stark Grapefruit Balm – A sample I received with an Integrity Botanicals order last winter, I used this on my winter skin and really enjoyed the consistency and scent.  I did not like it as a cleanser, however.

W3LL People Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara – Favorite mascara, ever. Excellent non-flaking formula, perfect wand, perfect consistency.  Enough said.

Mineral Fusion Oil Cleanser – Bought this on a whim and I basically forced myself to use it up – no other oil cleanser compares to the original formula of the ED4OLO Vitamin B Cleansing Oil.  Sadly, I heard that to obtain ECOCERT status, OLO had to take out one of the ingredients that made their cleansing oil so great.  Disappointing, but I do understand.

Laurel WPO Healing Balm – Another Integrity Botanicals Sample – I loved this balm so much, it was my favorite out of the face balms I used in the winter (OLO Skin Savior and Stark Grapefruit Balm being the other two).  I would definitely consider purchasing a full size this fall.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen Tint – My favorite summer sunscreen, which I recently posted about here.

Evan Healy Rose Geranium Hydrosoul – I love EH hydrosols – there are just excellent quality.  I don’t think you could go wrong with any of their hydrosols.  Expensive, but so nice.

Root Science Youth Serum – An excellent serum.  I would definitely repurchase.

Dr. Bronner’s Citrus Castile Soap – The granddaddy of all-natural multi-purpose products.  I primarily use this watered down to clean my kitchen and bathroom. Look here.

Alteya Organics Bulgarian Rose Water – Such a beautiful rose water.  I picked this up at Whole Foods and absolutely loved it to the last drop. I primarily use rose water to set my makeup or as a pick-me-up during the day.

Raw Skinceuticals Cream Blush – A Petit Vour sample that just didn’t make sense to me.  The color was a weird mauve-lavender and the texture was creamy but somehow still dry.  It didn’t blend easily, either.  No, thanks.

Josh Rosebrook Active Enzyme Exfoliator – A cult status product that just didn’t wow me personally.  I got at least 10 uses out of the mini size, which was impressive.  However, I just never noticed a difference in my skin – it was not softer, clearer, or brighter after using.

Lotus Wei Inner Peace Energy Mist – Loved this, but not quite as much as their Infinite Love Energy Mist, which has the most amazing scent. These products truly have an immediate, positive affect on my mood and sense of well-being.

Christopher Drummond Duo Phase Hydrating Concealer (FYI – now Hynt Beauty) – My favorite concealer ever.  It doesn’t crease, lasts all day, and covers my dark circles and redness.  I won’t fix what isn’t broken, so I just keep repurchasing this one again and again.  This company recently became Hynt Beauty and this is the concealer now.  I hope it is exactly the same as the old formula!

Are any of these products favorites of yours?  Are there any you have tried and were disappointed with?

Swatched! My Favorite All-Natural Lip Colors for Spring

lipswatches2To me, when it comes to makeup, lipstick is the absolute quickest way to feel “dolled up” and feminine.  I love shades of pink the most, with an occasional mauve, berry, nude, and red thrown in.  These happen to be the all-natural, non-toxic lipsticks I have in my collection that I think are perfect for Spring.  I have swatched all these products on bare lips to try to give the best color representation possible.  I also photographed them all in natural light.

No8PoppyW3LL People Nudist Colorbalm in No. 8 Poppy – Think of a tinted lipbalm when you think of this color.  It is very moisturizing with a slight hint of fucshia. Perfect for applying without a mirror.  It doesn’t seem to leave a stain once it wears off.

LoveBuzzIlia Lip Gloss in Love Buzz – This is a very glossy, non-sticky violet tinged cool pink lip gloss.  The packaging is gorgeous and I love the fun, very wearable color.  Like all lip gloss that I personally have used, it wears well unless you eat or drink a fair amount.

SublimeRMS Beauty Lip Shine in Sublime – This little pot is like melted cotton candy.  Such a gorgeous glossy shade of deep pink! Wears about the same as a lip gloss.

ShellShockIlia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Shell Shock – This might be my favorite formula of all the lip products I own.  The color is definitely gorgeous – a very wearable coral pink.  But the application and texture are amazing.  Just perfectly smooth and beautiful every time.  I love the wear of this, but this particular shade doesn’t leave a stain behind as it fades.

XOXOPacifica Devocean Lipstick in XOX – This is a super pretty cream lipstick in a neutral everyday pink shade.  One thing that is a con about this lipstick is that compared to other lipsticks, it tends to cake a bit on my lips.  I typically always apply lip balm under my lipstick, so it may be me or it may be the formula.

RetsinaBite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Retsina – In the past, I have never had luck with nude lipstick.  They were always too brown or washed out my complexion (fair with yellow undertones).  Retsina is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a flattering pale pink nude for my skintone.  I usually purchase my lip products online, but this was one shade I wanted to be able to swatch before I purchased.  Since Sephora is one of the only beauty stores close to me, I went with Bite Beauty.  I really love this lipstick with smokier eyes…I’ve always thought women with smoky eyeshadow and nude lips were the epitome of sexy!  This formula is super creamy.

NeonAngelIlia Lipstick in Neon Angel – Perhaps the most fun of my lip products, Neon Angel is more versatile that it might appear.  Applied over lipbalm, it gives a beautiful pink tint.  Apply it over bare lips, and you can layer it in intensity until it is similar to the swatch above.  I actually find this color very wearable, as it isn’t neon pink – just bright, bold magenta pink.  This is a slightly drier formula, but I like that, as I feel it gives a very even application.  Wear time is good.

StarletZuzu Luxe Lipstick in Starlet – A basic, cool toned “candy apple” red.  For me, this is a classic red lip that looks good year round.  And for the price, the formula is fantastic.  It applies so smoothly and evenly.  The formula is more creamy that Ilia lipstick, but not as creamy as the Bite Beauty lipstick or Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner.  The wear time is quite good.

Do you own any of these shades?  What clean, all-natural lip products do you love for Spring?  Let me know in the comments!

Side-by-Side Mascara Comparision: W3LL People & Lily Lolo

mascaratubesMascara is one of my favorite makeup items.  I love the way it makes a woman look brighter, more awake, and sexier.  Mascara was also one of the very last items of which I used a non-natural version…the thought of a bad mascara made me cringe.  However, the quality of clean, non-toxic beauty items has made absolute leaps and bounds in the past several years….yay!  Now, there are actually options.  For the past 8 years or so I have used clean, all-natural makeup…but I’ve only used clean mascara for the past year or two.  That is a testament to how much I was clinging to my favorite non-natural mascaras.

Then when I found W3LL People mascara last year, I was so happy I could’ve danced around my room.  I don’t exaggerate when I say that it easily replaces the chemical laden mascaras of my past.  See my original review here.

Now enter Lily Lolo’s new mascara, a much hyped product that was included in the February Petit Vour box.  Immediately, I was curious how it would compare to the W3LL People mascara.

To truly see in real-time how they compare, I used the W3LL People on one eye and the Lily Lolo on the other.  Please excuse the photo quality, I wanted to get a shot of my eyes before I forgot and the lighting and angle weren’t the best.  Hopefully this is sufficient for comparing the mascaras. A better camera is hopefully in my future!

mascara

Left: W3LL People Mascara; Right: Lily Lolo Mascara.  I’m wearing two coats of each.

The formula of the Lily Lolo seems drier and thicker to me than W3LL People’s.  And as far as the brush goes, I vastly prefer the W3LL People, as it seems to coat my lashes really well and seperate them at the same time.  Every time I use my Lily Lolo, I have clumping issues, but never have experienced this with the W3LL People.  You can actually see some of the clumping in the photo.  You can really get a good look at them both if you click on the photo to enlarge it. Also, I feel that I get more of a spidery-look with Lily Lolo.  As far as wear, they both are very comparable, with no flaking at all and little to no smudging.

This is not to say that I dislike the Lily Lolo mascara.  It wears well and does give volume and might be spectacular for someone else.  However, for me, W3LL People still takes the non-toxic cake.

Have you used either or both of these mascaras? Which do you prefer? Do you have another brand of clean mascara that you love? Let me know!

Recent Emptied Natural Products

februaryemptiesRead on for the “eh’s” “oohs” and “aahs” of some of my recent finished all-natural bath and beauty products!

ED4OLO Active Moisture Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil – I’m on my 3rd or 4th bottle of this luxury product.  It is expensive, but 1) I’ve gotten it on sale every time I’ve purchased it, and 2) less expensive cleansing oils just don’t compare for me.  Definitely a product I wholeheartedly love.  The scent, the way it dissolves makeup and yet somehow is completely water soluble…aaah.

Zylicious Xylitol Gum – I picked up this affordable gum at the all-natural health food store I frequent.  It doesn’t contain most of the nasties that conventional gums do, but it contains titanium dioxide (to make it white) which I’m not a fan of.  The taste was great, though.

Pai Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil – This oil has been on my face every single day this winter.  It’s amazing.  Seriously.

Acure Organic Argan Oil – This is purely a staple in our bathroom.  I haven’t used it often this past winter because I’ve needed extra heavy serums and balms.

Blissoma Fresh Mild Rice Cleanser – I loved using the sample of this cleanser.  I would definitely buy a full-size…if I could get it at a great price.  It’s a bit expensive for my taste, but it is very, very nice.

Honest Company Shampoo & Conditioner – These are also staples in our house.  They are the only products I use to wash my daughter’s hair (review coming soon!).

Hurraw! Moon BalmI love Hurraw!  So….that being said, this is my least favorite flavor/scent that I’ve tried.  I wanted to love it, but the flavor is just funky.  I got used to it after a while, but I was never a fan of the smell.

Lotus Wei Infinite Love Energy Mist – One of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever come across.  I was so sad when this bottle was empty.  I haven’t repurchased, but that’s because I really want to purchase the Infinite Love Perfume and just haven’t gotten around to it….yet.

W3LL People Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara My favorite mascara, maybe ever.  I’m currently comparing a new tube of it to the brand new Lily Lolo mascara…review to come!

Odacite Buriti Lime Serum – This was a sample and I absolutely loved it – the texture, the smell, the way my skin looked in the morning.  Definitely not cheap, but I’d love to buy a full-size in the future.

Gemstone Organic Ylang Ylang Gem Hydrosol – I love GO Cremes…but this hydrosol was just like spritzing water on my face.  It really did nothing for me, and I wasn’t a fan of the scent, either.  I love that they put a piece of crystal in their hydrosols, and I’d be willing to try another scent in the future, but I would not repurchase this one. (At the time of posting this, I don’t see this product available on their website, so I’m not sure if it’s out of stock or discontinued).

Evan Healy Lavender HydroSoul – EH hydrosols are amazing.  The quality is obvious, the fine mist comes out perfectly, and the scents are complex and a pleasure for the senses.  I repurchased an EH hydrosol but in a different scent.

Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator –  A fantastic hydrosol/hydrating toner.  The smell is delicious, the quality fantastic.  I didn’t repurchase this one because it is expensive.  However, the product is stellar and I will probably repurchase this one in the fall/winter.

HollyBeth Organics Chamomile Foaming Cleanser – I already repurchased this, but haven’t been using it.  Instead, the past few weeks, I’ve only been using oils and cleansing balms due to my very sensitive, dry winter skin.  I’ll add this back into my rotation once the weather warms up.

Stark Skincare Neroli Midnight Oil – This was a sample, and I really enjoyed it.  It didn’t knock my socks off, but even with such a small sample, I could tell it was a great serum.  I didn’t love it as much as the Odacite serum, but it was still nice.

Have you used any of these products?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Favorite Products: W3LL People Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara

w3llpeoplemascara

Of all the makeup products I use, the two that must work well, that have to be reliable, are my foundation and mascara.  I don’t like settling for a mediocre mascara.  I want a mascara that lengthens, adds volume, doesn’t flake, doesn’t clump, doesn’t make my lashes look spidery, and basically makes my lashes look amazing.  Oh, and it can’t contain any nasty chemicals either.  Sound like a tall order?  It is, and of the natural mascaras I’ve tried thus far, they’ve all pretty much been “eh” – they might meet some of the criteria, but not all of it.  Until W3LL People Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara.

From the very first use, this mascara felt special.  Typically, a brand new tube of mascara isn’t that great for me – the formula will seem a bit thin and never seems to really do a good job until the tube is half gone.  Not so with W3LL People – the first use was great, coating my lashes really well and adding a ton of length and volume.

After using this every day for over a month, the only caveat I can say at all about this mascara is that it will occasionally smudge a bit under my eyes, but I think the culprit is the amount of moisture on my face (I use serum, moisturizer, eye balm, and hydrosol every morning….).  However, other than an occasional smudge, this stuff is spectacular.  I’ve even been able to find it on sale on various websites for fantastic prices that are well worth the cost.

There are still a couple of all-natural mascaras I’d like to try to compare to this one, but I do believe this one will hold up to any other clean mascara I try. Bravo, W3LL People!

What is your favorite all-natural mascara?

Current Autumn Makeup Look

currentautumnmakeuplook

I’ve amped up the moisture for fall and have tried to incorporate a bit of pretty color.  Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean when can only use drab neutrals!  This is a typical makeup routine for me lately.

Coola Face SPF 30 Matte Tint – After my moisturizers and serums have had a few minutes to sink in, I apply this mousse-like tinted sunscreen to my face.  I have never in my life enjoyed a facial sunscreen like this one.  The texture is beautiful, the hydration is just right, there is no cloying scent, it doesn’t break my skin out, it gives a light coverage, and the color is the best I’ve come across for my fair yellow olive-toned complexion.

Christopher Drummond Duo-Phase Hydrating Concealer – I truly love this concealer.  I apply it under my eyes to cover dark circles and around my nose to cover redness.  I use a damp Beauty Blender and it just melts into my skin.  Hydrating is right – there is no settling into lines at all.  I  set this with my pure silica powder, and then it stays all day.

Alima Pure Maracaibo Bronzer – After using Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer for a while (which I do like), I wanted to try Alima’s highly rated powders, but was unsure which to try.  I ordered samples of the Sombra Contour Powder, Maracaibo Bronzer, and Mauna Loa Bronzer.  The Sombra is just a little too flat and ashy on my skin, and Mauna Loa is much too dark.  Maracaibo, on the other hand, is a beautiful matte bronzer with just enough warmth to add depth to my face without looking fake.  I really enjoy this.

Aster + Bay Beet Root & Hibiscus Stain – This is my favorite makeup product right now, and I’ve talked about my love for it here.  This stain is seriously gorgeous on the cheeks.  It is a sheer berry and gives the skin a sexy sheen.  The fact that it is hydrating, has good longevity, and is all-natural just makes me even happier.  You can use it as a lip stain as well, but I just use it on my cheeks.

W3LL People Bio Brightener Stick – This was formerly called Universalist Multi-Use Colorstick #2.  This creamy highlighter is gorgeous on the cheekbones.  It really does add a little indescribable something to the face – just a pretty, glowing, youthful dusting of magic on the skin.

100% Pure Eye Brow Gel in Taupe – I love the cream texture of this eyebrow liner.  It is a pretty decent match for me.

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Mascara in Supernova – I’ve been going back and forth between this one and Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes, but my current tube of the Tarte has been flaking like crazy all over my face.  I’m so frustrated that I want to toss it, which is saying a lot for me because I don’t waste products.  It’s possible I just have a bad tube, so I won’t write this mascara off yet. This Pacifica mascara is very nice, buildable, doesn’t make my lashes dry, and doesn’t flake at all.   However, I like my lashes more dramatic than this can really produce.  I’ve decided to try W3LL People mascara next.

Everyday Minerals Mineral Eyeshadow in Laptop – This is my favorite eyeshadow of ALL TIME.  And they discontinued it!!  I’m always searching for a dupe but I don’t know if I’ll ever find one.  This one is a shimmer eyeshadow with a light brown base, plum tones, and silver shimmer.  It’s seriously gorgeous and gives something along the lines of a Victoria’s Secret subtle-but-sexy eye look.  If you know of a similar eyeshadow color, please tell me!

Tarte SmolderEYES Eyeliner in Fig – This deep plum eyeliner is just gorgeous.  The tip is fat, which makes it very easy for me to apply.  My eyesight is not so good in my right eye, so eyeliner application can be tricky with a thin pencil.  This one glides on so easily.

Ilia Lipstick in Neon Angel – I know.  Bright pink lipstick in autumn?  Paired with plum eyeliner?  But hold on – I don’t apply this at full-strength.  Applied lightly, it gives a feminine pop of pink that actually looks beautiful this time of year.

Lotus Wei Infinite Love Mist – I always finish with a few mists of a hydrosol or rose water on my face.  Lately I’ve been using this after my makeup is done. The scent is incredible – one of my favorite scents ever.  So much so, that I plan on purchasing the Infinite Love perfume.  These are not just accidental flower combinations – they are formulated to work on your mood as well. This one just makes me so happy and feel so loved.
